HANDY NAMED “ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR” AT THE 2016 NON-PROFIT ACADEMY AWARDS
This was the third consecutive win for Helping Abused, Neglected, Disadvantaged Youth at the Annual Celebration of Non-Profit Excellence
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (February 29, 2016) – HANDY received the coveted “Organization of the Year” award at the 6th Annual South Florida Community Care Network Non-Profit Academy Awards hosted by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and presented by 2-1-1 Broward. The ceremony honors the efforts of Broward County non-profits and the accomplishments of non-profit leaders who are making a difference from families across our diverse community.
“This recognition celebrates the collective efforts of a dedicated board of directors, staff and team of volunteers,” said Bob Birdsong, HANDY Board Chair. “Together, we are ensuring a brighter, sustainable future for HANDY and the remarkable children we serve.”
The award is an unprecedented, third consecutive win for HANDY at the Non-Profit Academy Award. In 2014, HANDY received the Children’s Services Council “Collective Impact for Youth” Award. In 2015, Evan Goldman, HANDY Chief Executive Officer, won the PNC Bank “Non-Profit Staff Leader of the Year” Award.
“HANDY is the surrogate family for some of the most disaffected youth in Broward County,” said Goldman, citing the unparalleled dedication of his HANDY colleagues. “By nurturing and empowering them on a daily basis, we have 114 HANDY Scholars in college, pursuing their dreams of becoming contributing, active and engaged members of society.”
