A Fort Lauderdale native, Breon Callins graduated from Plantation High School in 2011 and advanced on to Broward College to receive his associate of arts in general education. Breon continues his studies at Florida International University and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Construction Environmental Engineering. Breon also works as a professional intern for Moss Construction, a national privately held construction firm.
Breon overcame adversity in his youth with the support of HANDY, INC. by receiving all the care he needed to become the man he is today. One of which is the connection HANDY helped foster between Breon and his other siblings who were separated due to the foster care system. This is some he holds dear to his heart. He feels this is a great way for him to give back to an organization that is changing the lives of so many youths in our community.
Breon attributes his unlikely success to the support and care he received from HANDY. To continue the momentum of helping disadvantaged youth, Breon gives back to the community by serving as a mentor and tutor for other youth in foster care who require resources and support similar to what he received. Florida Children’s First presented Breon with the Child Advocate of the Year in 2013, when he was just 20 years old.
