On January 2, 2014 I embarked on a journey that took me months to prepare for and it was well worth the wait. The way that the Handy staff took care of me and the other youth was just amazing. The fact that Handy made sure I had everything I needed for my orientation, dorm room, and class at FAMU is something I will hold in my heart for the rest of my life. I feel as though to have people in your life who truly care and push you to succeed is just amazing and I don’t take it for granted and I forever truly grateful. Not to mention the great goodie bags that they prepared for us was awesome. I hope that you guys can continue this for years to come because it’s something you won’t forget.

Everyone comes to a point in life where they look back on how they got where they are. I looked back and realized I got where I am because of HANDY. The hours of dedication and time spent by HANDY made me the adult I am today. Every year, my kids are on the Christmas list, so this year I am making a contribution. It’s not much, but a day will come when I will have everything and HANDY will get it all. I love everyone at HANDY…HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Your welcome and HANDY is beyond deserving. I’m not sure how much Marsha has shared with you about my past so you may already know what I’m about to share… Having the HANDY scholarship committee and MARSHA:) to cheer for me, fight for me and guide me into and through college was such a blessing. Knowing I had so many individuals on my side routing for me without a doubt changed my life. Having my own children and seeing how amazing the difference of a quality meaningful education can make and knowing the work that goes into that path makes me appreciate what you do even more. I’m blown away at how much Handy has accomplished over the years and amazed at the incredible ability Handy has to reach the hearts of youth that may otherwise go untouched. I'm happy to develop something more for the breakfast theme - I tip my hat to HANDY!

It feels so good to give back to the kids and to see what a difference all of us have made in their lives. I never planned or expected to be a mentor until I met Jenny and we just clicked. Not only have I impacted her life, but she has filled my heart with so much love and appreciation that could never be replaced. Thank you Auxis for introducing me to HANDY. This experience is wonderful and more fulfilling than I could have ever known!

The HANDY organization not only selflessly helps abused neglected and underprivileged youth, but it also strives to help the rest of Broward County see the bigger picture and motivates them to get involved. Children and youth who have been removed from their homes and placed into the Foster/Relative Care system often lack the basic resources needed to become productive citizens; such as funding, discipline, affection, and education. As a result, more often than not, these youth tend to fall off course and fall into trouble. That is where HANDY steps in; to “embrace, educate and empower” these Broward County youth to become better people, better friends, better students, and ultimately independent self sustaining adults. In return HANDY becomes a home away from home for these youth, and for some, just home. I am so grateful to be involved with HANDY and their Next Generation committee because it allows me to give back to the community what has always so graciously and unquestionably been given to me.
