Academic and Vocational Scholarships
The HANDY Scholarship Committee awards scholarships for students who have been in the Dependency Court System to continue their education beyond high school and provides a continuum of support that includes tuition waivers, textbooks, school supplies, mentoring and encouragement.
Since 1996 the HANDY Scholarship Committee has provided scholarships to more than 100 students, 22 former recipients have completed their college degrees and 8 of those have received master's degrees.
HANDY is committed to changing the lives of dependent youth by supporting and enriching their educational foundation. Through education, youth strengthen self esteem and develop employment skills, helping to end the cycle of poverty, abuse, neglect and abandonment. HANDY accomplishes this through a strong mentoring support team which focuses on meeting the youth's needs, one student at a time.
Education is the foundation of human potential. By not arming these deserving youth with an education, the lost potential is staggering. We ask for your help in strengthening our community by giving your support to HANDY's Scholarship Program.
HANDY provides each student with a $500 scholarship per semester. Currently, 43 students who attend school locally and throughout the State of Florida receive HANDY scholarships. We are anticipating a minimum of 10 additional students for the Spring term.
