Running for Kathie
On Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9, 2010, Rick Zier will dedicate his run in the Colorado Marathon to the memory of his wife, HANDY’s Founding Board Chair, Kathie Zier. The 26 mile, 385 yard race begins in a river canyon in the Rockies west of Fort Collins, Colorado and ends in downtown Fort Collins. “I would also like to run for HANDY in my wife's memory, and will personally pledge a donation to HANDY of $250 for every mile I complete,” said Zier, “May 9th will be exactly 6 months from when Kathie suffered what was apparently a stroke and that hastened her passing (which occurred just one day later). It is very fitting that it's also Mother's Day, because she was such a loving mom. I plan to wear a shirt with "Running for Kathie" printed on the back, and I'll be thinking a lot as I run of her love for our children, Nikki, Mallory, Connor and Virginia. And also her love for HANDY, her other baby!” If weather, illness, or any other factor should prevent his running The Colorado Marathon, he is registered for the Steamboat Springs, Colorado Marathon on June 6, 2010 as a back-up. “I hope there will be some interest in pledging donations for each mile I complete.” Donate online through HANDY.
