LIFE Program

Life skills, Independent living, Foundation building and Education

The LIFE Program is targeted for youth aged 12-18, who are living with relative and non-relative caregivers under Protective Supervision (PS) and those Foster Care youth who do not qualify for ChildNet’s Independent Living program.

The mission of the LIFE Program is to provide the services and supports necessary to maximize the potential of our at-risk teens during the critical period of transition to adulthood. Our goal is to enable youth to become self-sufficient, productive, and healthy individuals who can go out into the world as contributing members of society. To date, through our Transitional Living Program, we have helped 30 young adults to live independently. With generous people and foundations in the community subsidizing their rent and utilities they are able to attend college or vocational school while working part-time.

Many of these youth have not had the positive role models needed to learn skills necessary to live independent, productive, self-sufficient lives.  The program serves both PS (Protective Supervision) children, and those in Foster Care.

Activities include bi-weekly support group meetings and workshops on topics including independent living skills, social development issues, work and study skills, character building, and experiential learning trips.  In addition to learning to shop for groceries, budget money, and obtain housing, it is important that youth learn critical decision-making skills, self-responsibility, and sound judgment.  These skills are necessary in order to become law-abiding, productive members of society.

I love all the activities, especially the horse back riding, boating, swimming, and when we have the parties and the movies. I just love everything.
